About the service
What is it:
A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) shows the actual energy performance of a public building based on real energy consumption rather than a theoretical model.
Unlike a BER cert which estimates how a building should perform, a DEC measures how it is actually being operated using 12 months of real energy bills. It rates the building on an A to G scale and must be displayed publicly on the premises at all times.
Who Needs it:
You'll need a DEC if you manage a public building that:
- Is occupied by a local authority or institution providing public services
- Has a total floor area greater than 250m²
Typical buildings that require a DEC include:
- Public libraries
- Swimming pools
- Museums
- Local authority offices
How it works:
- We collect 12 months of your energy bills covering electricity, gas and oil
- We calculate your total energy consumption per square metre per year
- Your building is rated on the A to G scale relative to similar building types
- The DEC is submitted and published for display on your premises
- We also produce an Advisory Report with recommendations to reduce energy use
What you get
- Your official DEC certificate, valid for 1 year and required to be displayed publicly
- An Advisory Report on reducing energy use, valid for 7 years

Our service works look like this

Home Energy Rating (BER)
A BER cert is essentially an energy label for your home, rating it from A to G so you know exactly how efficient it is and what it's costing you to run.

New Build Energy Compliance (Part L)
If you're building a new home or carrying out major renovation works, we make sure your project meets the energy efficiency standards required under Irish building regulations.

Deep Retrofit Design
From your pre-works assessment right through to your final cert, we take care of the technical side of your One Stop Shop retrofit.

Commercial Energy Rating (BER)
If you're selling, leasing or constructing a commercial building, we carry out the energy assessment and produce the BER cert you're legally required to have.

Building Regulations Compliance (Part L)
We guide developers, architects and building owners through the energy efficiency requirements for new commercial builds and major renovations, making sure everything is compliant before sign-off.

Advanced Building Modelling (IES)
Using specialist simulation software approved by SEAI, we build a detailed digital model of your building to accurately calculate energy performance, carbon emissions and compliance.
